Notifications & Following

Follow a case

Following a case in Chronicle lets you watch activity and receive email alerts about decisions, status changes, new documents, and event invites. Any number of team members can follow the same case, and users with the right role can follow on behalf of others or update multiple cases at once.

Follow a case from the client detail page

Open a client detail page. In the header, click Follow. If you are already following the case, the button reads Following instead. Clicking it opens the Follow Client modal.

Choose which notifications to receive

In the Follow Client modal, use the Add Email Notifications section to pick the alerts you want for this case. You can select any combination of:

  • Decisions

  • Status Changes

  • New Documents

  • Event Invites

Click Select All to enable every type at once, or leave all unchecked if you only want to watch the case without email alerts.

Follow on behalf of another team member

If your role includes the assign others permission (Manager, Admin, or Billing owner), the Follow Client modal shows a Claim for: dropdown. Choose another user, select their notification preferences, and click Save. That team member is now following the case with the selected alerts.

Follow or unfollow multiple cases at once

On the client list stage view, select multiple rows in the table, then open the bulk actions menu. Choose Bulk Claim Update to add or remove follows for all selected cases in one step. You can also assign the batch to another user if you have the assign others permission.

Filter views to only cases you follow

Following a case narrows several views so you can focus on what matters to you.

Firm activity feed

In the firm activity feed, use the Show selector and choose Following or Not following to limit the feed.

Client and calendar lists

On the clients page and the calendar page, use the client filter dropdown and choose My Clients. That limits the list or calendar events to cases you follow.

Digest

In Settings > Profile > Notifications, enable the Filter digest to only your cases switch. The digest then includes only cases you follow.

See who else is following a case

The client detail page sidebar includes a Followers fact. It lists every team member currently following the case, so you know who else is watching.

Stop following a case

Return to the client detail page and click the Following button. In the Follow Client modal, click Remove Claim. The follow is removed immediately and the Followers list updates.

Common issues

I do not see the Follow button

Open the client detail page from a stage list. The button appears in the client card header.

I cannot assign a follow to another team member

Your role does not include the assign-others permission. Only Manager, Admin, and Billing owner roles can follow on behalf of others.

Bulk Claim Update is not available

Select at least one row in the client list table before opening the bulk actions menu.
