Jonathan Heeps, Esq.
The Challenge
As both a practicing attorney and the operational backbone of Martin, Jones & Piemonte, Jonathan Heeps had a clear mission: make it easier for a busy multi-state team to move fast and stay coordinated.
Before Chronicle, that mission was held back by an outdated reality: manual ERE access, frequent logins, lost passwords, and duplicated effort. While their team structure was sound using region- and alphabet-based assignments across Georgia, Florida, the Carolinas, and Texas, the tools they relied on slowed them down.
“Sometimes if you didn’t have the password correct, we got locked out...it was a much slower process.”
Even though the team was disciplined in managing deadlines, delays from SSA mail and lack of timely alerts still created unnecessary stress.
“We’d get a 10-day notice on day 9 or a 25-day letter on day 24. That made things a lot more challenging.”
Paralegals bore the brunt. Between checking ERE statuses, deciphering spreadsheets, uploading/downloading documents, and performing OCR, the hours added up.
“Probably five or six hours per week per paralegal—just checking the ERE.”
The Tipping Point
There wasn’t one crisis moment. For Jonathan, the problem wasn’t dysfunction, it was drag.
The team needed to be able to move between cases quickly, without re-entering credentials or navigating outdated portals. Jonathan began looking for something more efficient and something built to match their pace.
That search brought him to Chronicle. He discovered the product at the NOSSCR conference in Nashville and the possibilities clicked immediately.
Why Chronicle: From Pain to Progress
Chronicle stood out not just for its tech, but for how intuitively it aligned with how his team already worked. The dashboard, the alerts, the OCR, and the hearing tools weren’t just “nice-to-haves.” They were built for SSD firms like his.
“The ease of use, the dashboard, how user-friendly it is...It’s just an overall really good platform.”
Their old system, a combination of Assure and internal processes, worked, but Chronicle offered a leap.
“
“There was a little apprehension at first (naturally when you change from one platform to another), but the staff seemed excited once we demoed it. They saw how easy it would be to use.”
Jonathan was also thinking long-term: could the tool improve how they communicate with clients? Could it help them do more without burning out?
“Can we stay in communication with clients quicker? Can we move from one task to another faster? That’s what we’re looking for.”
Transformation & Results
Chronicle’s first big win was speed.
Paralegals use it constantly for uploads, ERE tracking, and internal notes. Jonathan uses it to prep cases and track progress. And hearing attorneys rely on the medical chronology AI and searchable exhibits to get oriented fast.
“Paralegals love the status reports. Attorneys love the AI medical chronology. I use the hearing transcripts constantly. It saves a ton of time.”
Chronicle also surfaced key information that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. In one instance, a client came in under the impression their case was still at the initial level. But after uploading their file into Chronicle, it became immediately clear that a hearing had already been scheduled—a revelation that gave the team the runway they needed to respond in time.
“Chronicle saved us. We went into overdrive and got it done.”
Even with a disciplined team and solid workflows, Chronicle raised their ceiling. It unlocked better collaboration and removed friction from task handoffs.
“If someone’s out, someone else can just click on the client’s name and upload...it has made collaboration a lot better.”
The same held true for hearing prep. Attorneys could now:
Instantly search transcripts for VE testimony
Use notes to track post-hearing follow-ups
Identify last-minute SSA uploads with a single refresh
“The ability to drag the audio slider to the exact point you need. It’s just incredibly time-saving.”
For Jonathan, Chronicle is more than a tool, it’s a high-leverage teammate.
“
“Chronicle is like having the most efficient paralegal in the world. It's very easy to use. It doesn't take a day off. It gives you all the information you need immediately. It’s just a perfect system.”
It’s also one of the best values he’s seen.
“I’m blown away by the benefit we get for the cost. It’s well worth the money.”
The Takeaway
Jonathan Heeps didn’t adopt Chronicle to fix a broken system. He adopted it to accelerate a good one. Today, his team collaborates faster, prepares better, and moves through casework with less friction.
When asked what he’d say to someone who is manually updating the ERE or using staff, he replied:
“Why? Chronicle is incredibly affordable and it makes things so much better for you.”
