A letter from our founder

It Started With What Firms Told Us

I decided to start Chronicle in the summer of 2023 while working at Atticus, where I was building tools to help lawyers with intake and retainers. That work introduced me to disability attorneys and the gaps in the tools available to them.

Disability law had been underserved by technology companies for years. Fee caps can make the market less attractive to software companies, so investment went to larger practice areas, and firms were left with very few alternatives. That mattered, because this practice runs on trust: clients hand their firm their medical history and Social Security number, often at one of the hardest points in their lives.

Through conversations with firms and on industry listservs, I heard concerns about how their ERE vendors were using claimant data. Clients were receiving unsolicited calls from companies selling Medicare Advantage plans. Firms felt their clients' information was being used in ways they hadn't agreed to, and for firms with their own referral relationships, there was a financial impact too.

This community deserved better choices. That shaped the idea for Chronicle: better tools for disability firms, with firms in control of their data and client relationships.

Chronicle has its own SOC 2 Type II report, issued to Chronicle Technology, Inc. SOC 2 is an audit report rather than a certification: an independent auditor tests a company's controls against criteria set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Chronicle's audit covers the Security criterion, and Type II means the auditor tested that those controls operated over a period of months, not on a single day. The audit is repeated every year, and firms doing due diligence can ask us for a copy of the report.

Yes. Solo practitioners with 50 cases and firms managing 3,500+ cases both use Chronicle. The pain points differ; smaller firms need protection from a single missed notice, while larger firms need monitoring at a scale that's impossible to do manually. The platform serves both.
